players unite to legitimize the fight!

Dear Fellow Players, Supporters, and Community Members,

Across Oklahoma, countless bars, restaurants, and community establishments have hosted free-roll poker tournaments and similar league-based competitive games for years—just like pool, darts, cornhole, and other skill-based recreational activities. These games are not gambling; they are competitive entertainment built on skill, community engagement, and local business support. Historically the hosting establishment would offer a prize to the winners as a promotion of the event. However a recent interpretation of law by the ABLE Commision of Oklahoma has now restricted the payment of any prize, even though the players do not pay to play or have ANY CASH action involved in our tournement play what so ever! THIS IS NOT GAMBLING UNDER ANY DEFINITION OF THE LAWS IN OKLAHOMA AND IS DIRECTLY IN CONFLICT OF CASE LAW ACROSS THE COUNTY WRONGLY CLASSIFYING OUR GAMES AS GAMBLING!

Recently, the ABLE Commission’s decision to restrict our games to offer no prize has devistated the thriving poker community we have created. From the game directors, small business owners and thier staff, to the players who enjoy the game, this has taken tens of thousands of dollars out of the pockets of these establishments and local economies who once supported our play. —solely because establishments award small prizes, gift cards, or league incentives—WE HAVE BEEN unfairly restricted & our rights to participate in skill-based activities that bring people together, stimulate local economies, and build healthy community culture.

Such a careless decision creates confusion, inconsistency, and disproportionate enforcement of the law. Similar competitions are allowed statewide without limitation, yet poker—recognized widely as a game of skill and supported by case law all over the country—is being targeted uniquely and unjustly by the Oklahoma ABLE Commission.

Because of this, we have organized.

Introducing the Oklahoma Players Union

The Oklahoma Players Union (OPU) is a collective of tournament players, league participants, local business owners, and supporters dedicated to:

Protecting our right to participate in free-roll, skill-based tournaments, where a promotional prize is given to the winner by the establishment hosting our event.
Ensuring fair and equal treatment under state regulations
Defending establishments who provide healthy entertainment opportunities
Advocating for clarification and correction of ABLE Commision and prevent furtherlegislative overreach
Supporting league operators, prize-supported events, and community-building activities

We believe that skill-based competition should remain legal, accessible, and celebrated—not penalized.

📜 Petition & Legislative Action Initiative

In response to the ABLE Commission’s recent enforcement actions, the Oklahoma Players Union is preparing to:

✔ Launch a statewide petition
✔ Collect signatures from players, citizens, and business owners
✔ Submit legislative recommendations
✔ Pursue reversal or revision of the Commission’s unjust decision to restrict our play as we have been for over a decade
✔ Request clarification language protecting skill-based free roll poker tournaments

We will be presenting this to state lawmakers during the upcoming session.
